There is something I've been thinking about quite a bit lately in regard to the cannabis posts I've been making. I don't pretend to be a scientist and I certainly don't have a scientific mind beyond what I know about healing and illness via my own research. But I found this via NORML on Facebook and found it rather uncanny that it was being brought to light be Faux News expecially when I've been entertaining such thoughts myself lately - Cannabis Deficiency. The article seems to have been edited a bit to eliminate certain connections but I thought I would take this opportunity to put in writing certain thoughts I've had about it lately.
I am quite aware that the body has receptors for all variety of things and certainly not all of them are for "good" things. There are toxins that are able to bind to particular receptors in the brain that do a great deal of harm. That being said, however, there are a large number of cannabinoid receptors in the human body and in very specific places throughout the body such as the brain, spleen, and bone marrow leading me to believe that the placement of these receptors are most certainly involved in immunity in some way. Our bodies also naturally produce cannabinoids which leads me to wonder if some of those of us with chronic and even terminal illness may actually have a cannabis deficiency leaving us more prone to develop these diseases that are most certainly proven to be aided when cannabis is used as treatment. It is certainly worthy of research (ha! the research has been done but it is largely ignored because of cannabis's status as an illegal drug as well as a schedule I drug). With so many diseases on the rise (coincidentally?) since the banning of cannabis/hemp it begs the question (at least from me) if there is some corrolation there especially when it's been proven by the fringe that relief and even a cure can be found from utilizing the sacred plant.
The fact that even the fringe is finding proof of relief and sometimes cures when using cannabis makes me wonder how the government can possibly maintain their prohibition on cannabis in good "conscience" (and I use that word very very loosely here). From where I stand and so many like me it's unforgivable to maintain a line that is becoming more and more archaic and out of touch with what science is teaching us and proving. The government has no more right to tell us what to put in our bodies as adults than it does to tell us what we can put in our minds through reading. The fact that evidence showing its value is becoming more plentiful means the government's stance is becoming more tyrannical in appearance and application.
And just strictly an opinion here - I don't think you can pretend to be concerned about the state of the planet and environmental crisis if you do not support reestablishing hemp as a crop for the US. Hemp is by far the most sustainable crop and it's growth in the US is forbidden as well. Hemp fabrics last generations. Hemp paper could completely replace our beloved trees as the source for paper. Hemp oils, besides being incredible healthy, also make perfect fuels. The rationale has become more irrational as the education is moving through the country. Could anything be more Druid? Maybe I'm not as far from the path as it may have been thought...

further comments bubbling in my head, but your quote there at the end reminds me of a famous Ghandi quote too:
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”
Slightly different connotation, but the spirit of the message seems to still ring true. The more government fights to keep groups like NORML down, the more they seem scared to admit "Oops, my bad" about the whole hemp topic.
