Missouri is Showing the Country!

Typed by Pom

I'm sure that it's gotten around that St. Louis attracted 100,000 people to the rally for Obama over the weekend. To my knowledge this is the largest crowd ever at a political rally and so I guess I'm kinda proud that it happened in Missouri - even if it was on the other "coast". Of course KC had 75,000 in attendence in our rally and that's not a number to be sneezed at either! McCain was here the next day and drew 6,000 people - almost as many as tried to see Obama back in January at the rally that my husband, Mini Me, and I actually did go to!

Being a socialist has come in pretty handy lately with all of the Repugs crying "socialism" at Obama and all of the Dems shouting back "I don't care what you call it as long as he helps the middle class out as we're hurting". Neither party knows a thing about socialism and that's fine - but criminalizing it does rankle a bit.

Obama, despite what some might say, is NOT offering a national health care plan - no matter how badly some of us might like to see that. He is also not offering gay marriage - again, no matter how unconstitutional it might be to deny it. And as much as I wish he'd stop with offshore drilling and nuclear power and biofuels - none of those are leaving his decidedly capitalist speeches either. But to listen to the right wing press complain of Obama being protected by the media - well that's a bit too much to take. From where I sit, there is plenty to criticize in both camps - of course I'm just a Pagan socialist so nobody really cares about my perspective.

So many are talking about how, for the first time, they get to vote for someone they really believe in - Obama - instead of the "lesser of two evils" as they've been stuck with for so many elections thus far. I'm still having to choose between the lesser of two evils - albeit one is much more evil than the other - but right now, even though there are socialist and green candidates running, it's far too desperate a time to risk not making sure that the less evil gets into the White House. I have done my share of cavassing for Obama - talking my life-long-Democrat Grandmother out of voting for McCain just because he's "Muslim" (which anyone who bothers to check knows he's not - not that it should matter either way) as well as other misinformed people.

I've done that because I have to accept reality and the reality right now is that this country is not about to become socialist - nor are is it about to become green because it's the right thing to do and not just the cheaper way to do things.

Sometimes it's very easy to slip into a funk about the solitude one can feel about being isolated from the chants of "drill baby drill" or "jobs baby jobs" or "health care baby health care" - ok, nobody is chanting that last one but it's the only one I see as really justified right now. In a socialist society the rest would fall into place and so my thoughts turn to France, or Norway, or Canada - who are all so much closer to the societies I'd rather live in.

Joe the plumber is an ass - I didn't need to know that he was unlicensed and owed back taxes to believe that. Money and individualism rule his world - guard your cash and piss on the needy. Nevermind the fact that in a socialist society you take care of one another because the same will be done for you... what a ridiculous concept! That doesn't mean that McCain hasn't turned the poor guy's world upside down, but still....

I know this entry is going to make NO sense to anyone right now. I'm just going through campaign fatigue and can't wait till it's all over. It's all gotten to be a bit much and sometimes you just have to vent.

Speaking of venting - who's for "our" troops? Who's supporting them? McCain the 'Nam vet? Nah - you'd think so just because he is a vet himself, but he doesn't. He has opposed giving them better educational opportunities and is all for staying in Iraq (though at this point I think he's the only one as W has even abandoned ship on that one!). And not to mention the willingness to slam Jeremiah Wright and Colin Powell - both Vets. Why is McCain's record as a vet off limits because he was a POW and is running for president but Wright and Powell are free game? Wright is accused of being "anti-American" yet served on the staff that performed an operation on LBJ - hmm - saving a US president is now anti-American?? And Powell, well we all know about him and aside from his confused years under Bush he's got a pretty clean reputation to the best of my knowledge.

Ok - I'm done! I try to keep this all at a minimum but sometimes it just bubbles over(usually with more cussing though).
