I heard from my mother today and she actually had great news for once!
My step-brother and his husband are adopting two children!!! The adoption should be finalized in January but the kids are already living with them. They should all have a wonderful holiday season and the new daddies are exhausted in that really good way.
My step-brother is one of those people who was really meant to be a parent. I don't know his husband but I would imagine if he could capture my SB's heart he must be pretty special himself. They've been together nearly as long as my husband and I (16 years) and are world travellers - or should I say "were". Their lives are going to be forever changed.
The kids are coming from a horrible family situation that ended in tragedy. The kids are siblings, brother and sister, the boy is 7 years old and the girl is 11 months. If I know my SB, they are embarking on a whole new world of love, pampering, and fun that their little minds can't even grasp yet.
The little boy obviously has a much better grasp of what's going on and seems to be in awe of his new home. He sneaks downstairs every morning to turn on the Christmas lights on their tree and they find him sitting there staring at something he didn't have in his life until now. I can only imagine what this morning was like for both of them - gifts and love galore!
Here's to the happiness of that new family. My love and warmest thoughts go out to them and wishes for the most blessed future for them all!

My fervent hope is that the religious right doesn't get hint of the news that two children might be happy. You know how the Jesus freaks are; you have to be miserable in order to get into heaven. Or rich, either one.........
Michael,
I don't put anywhere near as much emphasis on the religious rights' ability to impact every life around them as they do. I'm only going to continue celebrating the union of this wonderful family and hope that it fills spaces in all of their hearts. :o)
