A Few More Thoughts

Typed by Pom

Clinton has been accepted as Secretary of State by 16-1. The lone nay voter, Sen. David Vitter (R-duh) of Louisiana, had issues with the potential "conflict of interests indicated from Hillary's husband, Bill's, foundation's financial backers". However, Vitter also said that, despite his "nay" vote, he thinks Clinton "could become one of the nation's best Secretaries of State yet." I'll never understand politicians....

Pope Benny is scoring high marks amongst the Jewish population by bringing back the prayer to "convert the Jews" in the Vatican's production of "Celebration of Judaism". Was better really expected from a former Nazi youth? Progress is all around....

The 3 Campbell children I'd written about previously have been removed from their parents' home. Three-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell and his younger sisters Joyce Lynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Hinler Campbell are currently in state custody for reasons that have not been disclosed by the "family services" agency. As offensive as these poor children's names are I can only say that I hope that they are not the reason for their removal from their parents' home. The police have stated that they received no reports of abuse or neglect on the part of the parents, Heath and Deborah, and were not told by the agency why they were to remove the children from the home and place them in state custody. Though with their recent claim to fame with the cake fiasco I'd spoken about earlier, I have no doubt they are under serious scrutiny whether there was a police tip off or not. Still, the children looked as though they were well cared for despite their parents' self-serving naming of the innocent babes. The event has set off a flurry of "liberal" bashing and right-wing hysteria as well as antisemitic rants and cries to deport Heath Campbell to Germany "if that's the way he feels". The fact of the matter is that these names are quite literally illegal in Germany but they are not illegal here. Remarkably the ignorance of the American reader/poster never ceases to amaze me - despite a decade of being online myself. I read an outrageous comment stating that while these children are being removed from their homes, we have a new President who will be sworn in whose middle name happens to be "Hussein" as though that is somehow comparable. The naming of children after heinous criminals and political groups well known to the entire world and the middle name of our soon-to-be leader whose name was in place long before knowledge of Saddam Hussein existed.

I've recently heard of cases of judges changing the names of children given by parents for reasons of humor or whatever because such names were deemed cruel and set children up for potential abuses within society. I hope that, while these names were passed through in the courthouse they were registered in, this is not the reason the children were removed from the home. But I also hope that parents learn from this and try not to inflict their will on their innocent children through such detestable actions. Our children deserve better.....

And finally - It's freaking cold here! This morning it was -5 with a windchill of -20! My old house sounds like my muscles and bones feel! The cold is bitter and I'm having a big cup of hot chocolate to stave off a frost. Hope you're staying warm wherever you are. Next week we'll be in the 50s....

Indoctrination of children into a world of hatred and bigotry is to me a moral crime of the highest order. This is the ONLY reason that racism even persists in our world today when it should have died out decades ago; the parents pass their ignorance onto their children and the rest of us have to deal with it. I was raised in a racist environment of the worst kind but it was only my own skeptical nature and movement around the country into different environments that saved me from falling prey to such poison. I'm sorry, but sometimes the state HAS to intervene in such cases when the ultimate result of no doing so would be yet more skinheads committing hate crimes against others (when these kids grow up and want to become martyrs for their race).

But as of yet "moral" crimes are still largely not on the books as being crimes for which there is recourse. Removing children from a home under such a subjective premise is not only suspect but potentially damaging. Removing them based on their names, while those can be changed, may only fuel the fires of the hate that their parents started.

If we continue to allow the "moral" dispositions to rule, I too as a Pagan would run the very same risk of losing my child by those who find my religious choices to be "immoral". The lines have to be drawn and not left to individuals to interpret however the wind might blow them on any given day.

The fact still remains that we do not know why the children were removed from their parents' home. As offensive as their beliefs are to myself and millions of other people - as of yet it's all speculation of the poorly thought out plans of the ego-maniacal parents that has brought the attention to the children and the upheaval of their lives. We do not know that this was the reason for their removal - if it was, it was not legal. If there is something else behind their removal from the home then I hope that they are prosecuted fully for whatever other crimes they have committed against their children.
