Just a quick reminder that Saturday at 3:30 8:30 pm (do it at your local time) there will be a world wide 'Earth Hour'. The idea is that everyone around the world will turn out their lights at the exact same time and a wave of darkness will creep over the Earth thus proving to our governments just how important the issues of climate change and the need for alternative energies really are to us. For those of us in the United States, this is a daytime involvment and as such takes very little sacrifice to participate. You'll not be sitting in darkness as you would in the UK so I see no reason for anyone in the US not to participate unless you just don't give a damn. So take a moment tomorrow to turn out your lights for one hour and be part of a world-wide movement. This is our home after all.
It really is the least you can do - why not do it?
EDIT: I'm a complete and utter moron though I do have to say that some of the discussions I'd read on this whole Earth Hour event was leading me to believe that the plan was the the whole world would be engulfed in a wave of darkness all at the same time. That is NOT the case. Each time zone will turn off their lights at 8:30 PM TODAY (Saturday, March 28, 2009). Do NOT adjust for time zones as I'd initially instructed. That is NOT the plan. Do it at 8:30. Turn off lights and all non-medical unnecessary electronics (computers, televisions, etc.) for ONE hour this evening to show your concern.
I really hope nobody's relying on me for perfectly reliable information - I never claimed to be a genius! lol

i'll do it...although at 3:30 in the afternoon I only have one lamp on with the energy saving bulb..
Just remember that it's at your local time. I assume you're on central time so it's going to be at 2:30 for you.
But....but......the BOOGYMAN will get me!!!
I hate light pollution with a passion.....I haven't seen the milky way in a very, very long time. I miss the night sky, I really do.
Michael, EXCELLENT POINT! I'm going to go outside (even if briefly due to ice storms and freezing temps) to see the night sky - assuming that there is great participation. Of course there is little light pollution where I live - we're far enough outta town that we aren't impacted much by it.
BTW - Everyone, please note that I was wrong in my information on Earth Hour and have updated it on the blog entry itself. Thanks!
