Oh That Pope Benny....

Typed by Pom

Yes, friends, the pontiff's at it again. Welcome back to the 15th century! During his first rock star tour of Angola, the holy see has taken it upon himself to issue an order to the Catholics in the area to convert the "sorcerors"! He also compared his own experiences of Nazi Germany to their current climate of war. Oh yeah, folks, he knows exactly what you're going through! He too lived in a war torn nation - ignore the fact that he was amongst the group doing the tearing and assume that he was also a victim!

Not that his position means a great deal to my life - at least not yet - but his condemnation of local religions as "sorcery" just pisses me off! He is a part of the machine spreading the word of hatred to his sheep about the evils of witchcraft and then has the audacity to be upset when his flock take up arms, killing and beating those he and his religion have preached against.

"Catholics should offer the message of Christ to the many who live in the fear of spirits, of evil powers by whom they feel threatened, disoriented, even reaching the point of condemning street children and even the most elderly because — they say — they are sorcerers."

Fear of spirits? Fear of evil powers by whom they feel threatened and disoriented? Good thing there's nothing like that within Catholicism.. no evil powers or spir.... oh WAIT! Don't Catholics have some devil guy and demons that they blame all of their bad stuff on? Apparently there's a right and true even when it comes to the belief of evil forces. "Your evil forces are the wrong evil forces - we have the one true evil forces in our religion! Come! Join us and fear the right wrongs!" And they also have that one big daddy deity that condemns everyone for everything but that is different because he's the right big daddy deity and therefore you must take whatever he dishes out I guess.

It feels like we're moving backward but I suppose it's no less than what should have been expected when Pope Benny took the seat in Rome. It's a return to the conservative mentalities of the Church - all is right with their one true god and anything less would be uncivilized. As long as you're with them you have nothing to fear but if you actually think for yourself and realize there's a plethora of the illogical in their logic you may be condemned to their archaic vocabulary and the zealotry of their flock.

The leaders of intolerant movements have no right to condemn their followers for intolerant acts. They are only doing what they've been told. The wrong doesn't lie with the followers - it lies with the teachings, the teachers, and the promoters. If they'd left these people alone to continue on their paths of their ancestors - the paths they'd been following for millenia - there'd be no problems like what you're seeing today. But being the one true religion means that destruction must come and the more destruction until even the branches and splinters of that same one true religion hate one another. In reality, when you believe there is only one true, there can be only one. They are doing nothing but creating a lonely world by their own design but it will never last because the call of the ancestors fills the souls of all people and eventually we return to what was ours by birth not by force.
