Mini Me's final performance in Seussical was last night. It was such a great time! The stage looked great, the costumes were excellent, and the performances and singing were stellar!
We walked in to Hicksville High and were greeted by one of the teachers whose job was organizing the entire thing. There was a group of people standing at the admissions table waiting to get in and the teacher saw us, asked for our names, said, "Oh I know exactly where you're seated - come with me". So we blew past those waiting in line (because we'd pre-paid but it was still sorta like blasting past a long line at a fancy restaraunt... well not really but hey sorta) and were seated with a family that we really don't care much for - we knew that ahead of time but we were prepared.
We were seated and spent the first few minutes checking out the decor and the set. The kids, teachers, and boosters did such a great job setting the ambiance for the play! Everything was Seuss themed including the menus. The main course was Roast Beast a la Green Eggs and Ham (the eggs were "deviled" with green yolk - the ham, fortunately, was not green). There was also Who Hash (scalloped potatoes). Everything on the menu was on the theme, but I can't recall everything. Honestly, hubby and I ate beforehand because I was starving and was a bit uneasy about what they were going to serve. The Juniors in the high school were serving dinner and doing clean up to earn credits for their prom (I have no idea what that means.. Mini Me doesn't explain it very well she just takes for granted that it's understood).
Finally 'Thing 1' (Mini Me) and 'Thing 2' (one of Mini Me's close friends) came out to harrass the audience starting with my hubby. They'd been warned beforehand not to bother me. Thing 1 took hubby's sunglasses and stuck them into her blue afro and then they proceeded to weave around the tables talking to children, giving out hugs, doing "bunny ears" behind certain people's heads.
Dinner was over and the play began. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of acting and the voices of some of the stars of the show. There were some great lines and The Cat in The Hat was probably the most enthusiastic of all!
Hubby and I had made sure to get flowers for Thing 1 and Thing 2. Somehow they'd been completely forgotten their first night and everyone got flowers EXCEPT for them. We then took them out to dinner at their place of choice. We dropped off Thing 1 at home and got to our house where a copy of Twilight DVD was waiting for Mini Me - we picked it up for her earlier.
It was a great way to spend the evening. I was so proud of all of the kids!
This morning was 'call mommy' time. So Hubby and Mini Me talked to his mom. We'd sent her a package for her b-day and in it was a pretty night gown and robe to lift her spirits. She's so excited about it that all of her friends have now been informed about it. They are requesting that she run up and down the hallways wearing it so they can all see it! Hubby wasn't so sure about sending it in the first place but I assured him that it was important for her. Her whole life is "have to" and "necessity". Sometimes the occasional unnecessary thing is just what is needed to help you feel better about things. It makes her feel pretty despite a ton of health problems and she's just giddy about it. That's what matters most!
So the weekend's finishing up. YellowDogGranny's friends have stepped up so wonderfully in support of her and her cat, Annie! It's so heart warming to witness especially when so many people are struggling right now with their own situations that they can put it aside for a moment to show their love for a friend in need. The button is still there at the top of the sidebar if anyone can help out!
