HELP!!

Typed by Pom

Ok, I've been talking about all of this remodeling that we're doing in our house lately. We have a VERY long way to go. The "master" bedroom is pretty well planned out - I just need to figure out a paint color - actually probably at least 2 colors not counting the Venetian plaster. The room has several dormers with windows but I expect it to be quite warm in the summer and quite cool in the winter so I'm trying to choose colors accordingly. I will probably lean toward a burgandy color for the main body of the room and then I'll pick an accent color in a light shade in the dormers. Burgandy will keep it darker in the summer time which will at least create a feeling of coolness/shade and in candlelight during the winter will offer a warmer feel to what will be a cooler space.

BUT the bathroom colors - especially since this is going to be divided into two spaces consisting of powder room and shower room - are really difficult for me to figure out. I've decided to put some pictures up here to show the items we've already picked up and see if anyone has any color ideas for me. Please keep in mind that we have a very old house and are trying to keep somewhat in the age of the home with the decor. I also live in the Midwest so beach themes have no place here - they're not really my thing anyway.

The Vanity

The Tile

(mossy slate)

The Medicine Cabinet

(much closer color match to the vanity than it might appear in this photo)

The medicine cabinet was the great find that I'd told you about. It's not an ideal choice but it was a great deal and I couldn't pass it up. It is quite large and will fit over the vanity nicely. I am thrilled with the vanity. It has that antique furniture look to it.

Now the shower room will be a bit different since these pieces will not be in there. I do want them to seem like they're connected by color even if they have little in common in the way of fixtures and features. Even the flooring is going to be different in the shower room - it's a hardwood (light oak colored) for now until we opt for a cork flooring later on.

SO - if anyone has color recommendations I'd be happy for some direction.

Pom, the main color I keep seeing for the main bathroom (not the shower room) in my head is a pea green, which is like green with a heavy gray gradient. If that is too dark, I'm also thinking a butter color could work with the woods and the white sink basin.

For the shower room, if the two rooms are connected (without a door) I would probably go with a paler version of whatever I chose for the bathroom (if you went butter in the bath, I'd stay the same color for the shower). But if there's a door, I would think a warm orangey peachy (all my colors are foods today for some reason) would work well.

Or you could scrap the whole thing and go slate with an off-white trim for both rooms, which should work with the colors in your tile. Wood works against any color so you don't have to worry there, luckily!

I see a red door and I want it painted black.

I have Martha Stewart in my basement and if you don't send me money I'm going to make her color coordinate a dumpster. I mean it!

Should I put my dead Escort Wagon on blocks or just leave it on those half-flat tires? I am SOOOOOO indecisive about these things.........

Don't hate me cause I'm so fashionable......grin......

Junior! I knew you'd stop by with some ideas for me. You're thinking in foods and I'm thinking in spices (light cinnamon specifically)! If we got our ideas together we could have a virtual no calorie meal. lol Green might work well to tone down the red in my complexion but then I'd have a false sense of security about my appearance when I leave my house. lol ;o) Thanks for chiming in!

Michael, shup! lol I want to do this right and hopefully only ONCE. I'm not obsessed with these things but I want it to be something I'm prepared to live with for a very very very long time. :oP

i would take the palest green out of the slate..which is hard to see on top of the purple background you have..
