This OId House

Typed by Pom

Welcome to a new episode of "This Old Fucking House". I'm your host, Pom, and today we are discussing painting in jungle like humidity on plaster walls that, despite our best efforts, don't want to accept paint! Achieving that 'Phantom of the Opera' look for Mini-Me's room is becoming a nightmare.

So you've taken down the 80 year old wallpaper on your 108 year old home, built a new closet for your clothes-horse daughter, washed down all walls, taped, mudded, sanded, and primered and your lovely home still doesn't want to accept the paint after 3 coats with anything resembling complete coverage? What to do? You've already gone over the original budget for the room by about $300 and your patience is wearing thin as the project only seems to take longer and longer with seemingly little progress being made. Yell at your spouse? Punt the dog? Throw heavy objects through windows (don't do that - windows are expensive). No. You head back out to the hardware store with shoulders sagging and head hanging down and stock up on more paint and try try again. Though I could kick Christopher Lowell's ass right now because many moons ago he'd had a professional painter on his show who said that it was using the right applicators that makes all the difference in the result of the painting. HA! Tell that to my poor, aching, sweating hubby, Mr. Paintman!

Our plan was to have Mini-Me in this room by her birthday. We had to extend that by a week to Labor Day weekend. Now we're looking at at least another week before she can get into the room we'd promised her 3 1/2 years ago! Maybe she'll get in there before graduation!

I love my house. I love my house. I love my house. I love my house.

But did I mention I got her some beautiful fabric for throw pillows I'll be stitching together for her bed?

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

The paint finally took - after 4 coats in places. Now she's all but ready to move in - assuming she gets her shit packed up so she can make the transfer. These days I count on NOTHING - such is the life of the mother of a teenaged girl.
